BMW M GmbH is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures performance cars. It was founded in 1972 with just 35 employees. The “M” stands for Motorsport. It’s first racing project was the BMW 3.0 CSL and it’s first official M badged car for sale to the public was the M1 in 1978.
M badged cars usually have modified engines, transmissions, suspension, aerodynamics and exterior and interior trims.
The dark blue stripe was originally purple, the 3 stripes leaning against the M are intended to emphasize the speed and dynamism of the BMS W series.
